Singburi Province

The tiny province of Singburi, covering an area of just over 840 sq km, is located about 140 km to the north of Bangkok. The provincial capital was founded during the reign of King Rama V, who consolidated three small towns; Sing Buri, In Buri and Phrom Buri, and establishing the new city of Sing Buri.

Places of Attraction

Wat Phra Non Chaksi
This temple is located about 3km from the town centre. It enshrines a highly revered Reclining Buddha image, which is 46m long.

Wat Pho Kao Ton
This temple enshrines a statue of Phra Achan Tammachot, a respected and dedicated spiritual leader of the village of Bang Rachan.

Khai Bang Rachan Park
The park contains a monument that pays tribute to the villagers of Bang Rachan. The villagers put up a heroic fight against Burmese troops during the reign of King Ekkathat in 1765. Totally outnumbered by their enemy, they outfought them for eight attacks before succumbing to the larger forces.

Wat Phra Prang and Maname Kiln
The temple compound contains a prang which is said to date back to the time of King Narai the Great. There is also traces of ancient kilns, dating back to the Ayutthaya period, to be found nearby.

Wat Sawang Arom
This monastery is a teaching centre for the sculpting of Buddha images. It has a large collection of Nang Yai, a puppet used in the shadow plays.
