Trat Province

Trat Province
Trat is the most eastern province along the along the Gulf of Thailand. It borders the province of Chantaburi and Cambodia, where it seperated by the Khao Bantat mountain range.The region has been in and out of Thai control over the years. During the reign of King Rama V, the government granted the area to the French on condition they withdrew from Chantaburi province. In 1906 the province once again became part of Thai territory, although at the cost of areas now part of Cambodia.A naval battle with the French occured in 1941, at Koh Chang, which the Thais were victoriuous, although at a cost of three warships and many lives.
